Club History Uncovered
As part of her research in to her family history, Sandra Taylor (née Farrell) uncovered that her Grandfather, Patrick Joseph Farrell, was part of a group of football enthusiasts who helped establish Clontarf Football club. And more importantly to our club, he was instrumental in getting Clontarf Schoolboys football club established. Patrick was also President of the Schoolboys football club, a role he held up to his death in 1958.
We are really grateful to Sandra for passing this information on to us as it has allowed us identify a period in our clubs history that we were previously unaware of. Previous to Sandra providing us with the information we knew the first Clontarf Football Club was founded in 1917, but between then and the clubs appearance in a Dublin District Final in 1957, we had very little information, even though we knew Football played a large role in the Clontarf community, between 1917 and 1957.
The documents and pictures Sandra provided us show that her Grandfather was involved with Clontarf Football club during the 1930's , 40s and 50s, along with his cousin Albert Farrell, Jack Farrell. Con Drumm , Lar O'Leary, Jimmy Ambrose, Ray O'Halloran and Harry Bryan.
Sandra has been helped in identifying as many of the people in the photos below by her Aunt Dorothea, who has been fantastic help during the research of the football photos and articles.
If anyone can identify anyone else not highlighted in the photos please get in touch with the club through our email, info@clontarffc.ie and we will pass on the names to Sandra and Dorothea.

"If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants"
Thanks you to Sandra and her Aunt Dorothea for sharing the story of your Grandfather and father with the club, as he was definitely a Giant to us and we are proud to carry on his legacy.
